Cahoon, Harney, Landis Win Recent I lections Members of Saint Mary’s stu dent body recently elected Vir ginia Ann Landis chief dance marshal for next year; Anne Ga boon, secretary of the Hall Coun- cill; and Heilig Harney, chairman of the assembly programs, in elec tions held during the past two weeks. Virginia Ann Landis, a junior from Charlotte, is a member of the Saint Mary’s Glee Club, the Canterbury Club, and, being a Mu, she has been an active par ticipant of Orchesis and the Hockj^ team. Anne Cahoon, Burlington, is a new girl this year. She has taken an active part in school activities and is in the Canterbury Club, the Glee Club, the Choir, Orchesis, and will participate in May Day this year. Heilig Harney, Edenton, is a member of the Circle, the Choir, the Glee Club, and the BELLES .staff. She is a Mu and shouts her outstanding athletic ability as a member of the basketball team, the All-Star volleyball team, and the softball team. Flash! ! ! ! IMay Queen, Katy Evans Circle Taps Seven In Midnight Walk Brundage, Russ, Best, Harney, Wooten, Fulton, Huske Tapped The Circle, tlie college lioiiorary society of Saint Mary’s, tapjied seven new members on Tuesday, April 19, ill the traditional iiiidiiiglit initiation ceremony. New members accepted were Lucile Best, Helen Brundage, Aurelia Fulton, Heilig Harney, Rosalie Huske, Berta Allen Russ, and Rarbara Wooten. .ALL JUNIORS Lucile Best of Clinton lias been associate editor of the Stage Coach this year. She is legislative body representative of her class, the bead Mu clieerleader, a committee cliair- man in the Canterbury Club, secre tary of Orchesis, and news editor of the BELLES. Next .year Lucile will be editor of the Stage Coach. This is her third year at Saint Mary’s. Helen Brundage of Tryon lias also been at Saint Mary’s three years. This year she is on the honor council and Bulletin staff. She is a member of the Altar Guild, the Glee Club, and Sigma Pi Alpha. She is vice- president of the Y.W.C.A., and edi tor of the Student Ilandbooh for next year. She will also serve as cliairnian of the ball council. Aurelia Fulton of Walnut Cove is also a third year girl at Saint Mary’s. She lias served as associate editor of the Stage Coach and presi dent of the Canterbury Club this year. She is also a dance marshal and a member of both the Dramatic Club and the Altar Guild. A Mu, Aurelia is a member of the Letter Club and was captain of her basket ball team. Next year she will serve as vice-president of the student body. Heilig Harney of Edenton is a member of the Glee Club, choir, and (Continued on P. 4, Col. 1) Frankie Allen, Maid-of-Honor, and Court Will Attend Queen Saint Mary’s 1949 May Day Pageant group, under the supervi sion of the physical education de partment, will present its annual per- foriiiance tomorrow afternoon, May 7, at 3 ;30 on the front campus. The theme will bo a repetition of the 1939 May Day Pageant, A Dance Representation of Milton’s IJAlle gro. Immediately following the presentation there will be a Coca- Cola party honoring the 1939 May Court, to which all aliininae are invited. Mrs. William C. Guess will again direct one of Saint Mary’s outstand ing May Day festivals. QUEEN KATY AND COURT The program will feature the crowning of the May Queen, Katy Evans ot Murfreesboro, who will represent Mirth. Her maid of honor, Mary Frances Allen of Statesville, will represent Liberty. The nymphs of the court will be Betty Bowles, Statesville; Catherine Campbell, Lynchburg, Va.; Betsy Carter, Pine- hurst; Rachel Cozart, Fiujuay Siirings; Mary DuBose, Colnmbia, S. C.; .Jean Craft .Jenkins, Hart well, Ga.; Irene McNulty, Colum bia, S. C.; Mary Marsha.il Ragland, Raleigh; Petty Winfree, Lynch- burg, Va.; and Betsy Wood, Eden ton. MEKVNCHOLY RESIEGES L’ALLEGRO In the jiageant, L’Allegro (the Merry Man), besieged by Melan choly with her “shrieks and sights unholy,” has lost his hajipiness, hut rollicking “Quips and Cranks and Wanton Wiles” banish the gloomy goddess and her train before the ar rival of Mirth and her handmaid Liberty. To win L’Allegro complete ly away_ from her rival. Mirth charms him with a day of song and dance. The morning lark flies by in joy ful freedom. The cock, followed by his jealous dames, stmts proudly from his roost. Milkmaids go gos siping to their morning task. In the afternoon, young and old meet on the green for the Maypole and other holiday dances. But the shadows begin to lengthen and soon the vil lagers gather to tell stories and sing ballads. Gradually they fall asleep, L’Allegro with them, to dream of royal pomp and revelry, thus bring ing to a close L’Allegro’s day of happiness. _ Delighted with Mirth’s presenta tion, L’Allegro crowns her queen. GLEE OLUR WIIAi ACCOMPANY The Glee Club, under the direc tion of Miss Geraldine Cate, will sing selections from Handel’s musi cal setting of L’Allegro. Mrs. George Corby, Mrs. L. S. Winton, and Mrs. Rod Amundson, all of Raleigh, will be the pianists, and Mrs. Emerson Atkinson of Raleigh will be violinist.
